Dúnedain Captain
Dúnedain Captains, or Captains of the North, lead the small forces of the Rangers of the North, spread far and wide across the lands of Eriador and the biomes inside it. You can hire normal Dúnedain Rangers from them. They are able to go nearly invisible, taking on a ghost-like form to evade and attack their enemies.
Spawning
Dúnedain Captains will only spawn in ranger camps, encampments and captain tents. These can be found throughout Eriador and the Lone-Lands, as well as many different sub-biomes in the area.
Behavior
Captains wander aimlessly around their camps. Like other hiring units, they will not attack enemies unless attacked first.
Equipment
When attacked, they fight with a normal longbow or ranger bow like other rangers, and at melee range they wield a sword. This is unlike normal rangers, who fight with either a bronze or iron dagger or a barrow-blade. They also carry a coin in their other hand, regular for a hiring unit.
Hiring
Currently, you can hire only normal Rangers from them for 50 coins. Your alignment must be >=350 with the Rangers of the North.
Strategy
- When fighting Rangers or any other ranged enemy, a shield is extremely useful to block arrows.
- Try and get close enough for them to immediately switch to their melee weapon, which toggles on at shorter range. If you are at the right distance, they can't damage you with it.
- If you are fighting larger numbers, try to draw them towards you one by one, as a large group can overwhelm you with arrows very quickly.
Lore
The Dúnedain are a remnant of the fallen kingdom of Arnor, a branch of the descendants of Númenór, who watch and guard the lands of Eriador and wait for the return of the king.
